Guide to Obscure The Aftermath on the PSP

Obscure The Aftermath is Playlogic's own dose of survival horror goodness for the PSP, which is developed by Hydravision that is true to the fashion of what a horror thriller ought to be like. It follows up the 2005 release that brought not just cheap scare but a feeling of nightmare that was haunting without depleting its level of excitement. When playing Obscure The Aftermath, the experience never wears down and you will soon find out that the game gets even more challenging as you play.

True to its role as a sequel, Obscure The Aftermath picks up where the first game left off. As a brief background, the first game featured a set of teenagers from Leafmore High School who encountered the “black flowers”, which mysteriously turned their phobias into real monsters that haunted them and created all these vivid dreams. It has been a few years since the events of the original game, Obscure The Aftermath aptly follows these characters as they have now entered college at Fallcreek University. As you start playing this game, you almost get the sense of hope that their multiple nightmares would simply vanish as quickly as it first appeared. But that is not going to be the case with Obscure The Aftermath as the plot stumbles into various spine-chilling situations and mind numbing plot scenarios that will leave your heart beat racing.

The plot in Obscure The Aftermath takes on a whole new focus and turn. These students have finally taken it upon themselves to investigate on the mystery behind the origins of the “black flowers” in an effort to put an end to all the mysterious happenings in and around the campus. In their quest, these students find themselves in spooky situations and find new villains and monsters. Obscure The Aftermath does not, at any point, lie low in its approach and often confronts gamers head-on with psychological scare.

Expect a lot of action to unfold in Obscure The Aftermath as the characters will be forced to find a way to deal with these monsters in an effort to survive. It sticks with the traditional horror formula, tossing in lots of monsters and eerie environments, a variety of puzzles to solve, and lots of combat tools such as ammo and health kits. Your ability to overcome each obstacle in the gameplay for Obscure The Aftermath means a step closer towards putting an end to these vicious activities.

You will begin play by selecting one out of six character choices to control in Obscure The Aftermath. Each character is equipped with their own set of unique skills. Since you are going to encounter a wide range of tasks or missions all throughout the game, you need to carefully consider which character to choose. Assess their strengths and weaknesses so you now how they can deal with and be effective at various situations. Aside from affecting how combat plays in Obscure The Aftermath, the characters you use will also produce different dialogues and affect the way they interact with other characters in the game.

Going back to the unique abilities of the characters in Obscure The Aftermath, it was designed to employ tactical strategy. This is in conjunction with the fact that the game is played with two characters at a time. Hence, two people can work together in making their way out of this frightening experience. The buddy system employed in Obscure The Aftermath offers the challenge of managing pairs. So, you have to decide what skills will be most necessary. Corey is a character skilled in climbing, which makes him an asset in navigating the different environments of this game to make an escape. Sven is a powerful character capable of pushing through or carrying heavy objects. Meanwhile, there's Mei who is skilled at hacking electronic devices. Practicality is the case here for Obscure The Aftermath's buddy system, while at the same time ensuring that you have access to weapons in the inventory and a ready health kit in case your health drops low.

As an action horror game, you will have access to a wide selection of varied weapons in Obscure The Aftermath. Each character will have access to a total of 22 weapons that they can use to defend themselves against a horde of monstrous enemies. There is also some level of interactivity with these weapons and items in Obscure The Aftermath, depending on which character is using them during gameplay.

Speaking of monsters, they are probably the biggest highlight of Obscure The Aftermath since these are phobias of the students that have come into life in the form of vicious monsters. There is an additional degree of fear instilled among the characters and the use of monsters since these are first and foremost inspired by the character's phobia. Obscure The Aftermath really does hit you where you are most weak. For example, teenage girls who are so conscious about their weight and fear the idea of turning fat is faced with fat monsters. Apt to the title, these monsters can be as obscure as they are scary.

Despite the presence of your buddy, who can hop in anytime via the Ad-hoc mode in Obscure The Aftermath's co-operative play, these monsters could often be too much for you to handle. An efficient saving system is therefore necessary in saving your game progress and avoid having to go through the entire gameplay all over again. As if its not already obscure enough, Obscure The Aftermath requires you to locate a black flower and touch it. Your character will eventually pass out, automatically saving your progress in the game.

Several critics initially feared that the PSP will be unable to handle the graphics of a massive horror survival game such as Obscure The Aftermath. However, the game is surprisingly rich in detail with 3D environments that are nothing short of amazing. The use of motion capture on the character movement and action feels and look smooth. If the eerie depiction of the game environments is not enough to set the atmosphere of fear in Obscure The Aftermath, then maybe the game soundtrack will do. It is performed by the Boston String Quartet and the Paris Opera Children's Choir. As soon as the music plays in the background, it will definitely send shivers up and down your spine.

If you've been searching for a new flavor of the survival horror genre that really digs deep into your fear, then Obscure The Aftermath will certainly deliver the most spine-chilling and heart pumping you've ever experienced on the PSP.
