When you first start up Monster Hunter Freedom you will get to create your own monster hunter with the various avatars available in the game to create a male or female beast. You’ll be able to choose a face shape, skin color, hair type, and more.
In the beginning of the story, just like a true role playing game, you wake up in your bed. You can begin roaming the village and checking out the scene. However, the village is really small…really, really small. You can check out some of the shops that are there and will find some missions to take on and complete. It also has the same old kind of phrases; so don’t expect any exciting or funny conversations.
After checking out all of the shops in town you are likely to head over to the guild where all of the true action takes place. You’ll find village elders outside, wenches inside making fun of you, and mysterious tutorial missions the elder gives you. Well, they are not tutorial missions – they are real!
Your first missions will be ridiculously simple, but be patient. You will learn some pretty useful skills while on these boring missions that you will need later on.
Your first cool encounter will be with an angry opponent. Finally, some action! Wait, no, you have to prove your fishing skills first. But there’s a freaky warthog type monster lingering in the area that you need to take down. Whoohoo!
It’s difficult to keep those monsters in your sight range, because of the camera angle. Plus it’s frustrating to fight the monsters with the controls. But you have some speed that helps with the above problems. You get four weapons: a crossbow, a sword, a hammer, and a lance. By completing the various missions you can get even better weapons and skills, which wlll come in very handy later in the game.
While the game controls and camera can be frustrating, this is still a cool game to have around when you want to start ripping up some crazy monsters.
